Inverlochy Castle c1892, after 2nd phase of building was completed	Nestled within the woods and fields that lie in the shadow of the mighty Ben Nevis, the internationally renowned Inverlochy Castle Hotel sits amidst what is surely some of Scotland's finest scenery. The beauty and tranquillity of the Castle's setting is remarkable and, in keeping with the grandeur of its surroundings, the Castle itself is a very fine building, wonderfully crafted and richly decorated. The word 'Inver' is derived from the Gaelic for 'confluence' or 'at the mouth of' and, on the south bank of the River Lochy, near to where the river enters Loch Linnhe, stands the aptly named and crumbling ruin of Old Inverlochy Castle.

The construction of the new Inverlochy Castle, which was to be the home of Lord Abinger, was begun in 1863 and was completed in 1866. In 1889 modernisation work was undertaken on Inverlochy Castle and over the next few years the castle was extended and upgraded. It remained a family home until 1969 when the new custodians. Joseph Hobbs Jnr and his wife Grete decided to convert their home into a country house hotel to improve its economic viability. Mrs Hobbs ran the castle herself until 1976 when Mr Michael Leonard became the hotel's manager. He retired after 26 years of service in August 2002, and Niall Edmondson took over as Inverlochy Castle's General Manager. Niall decided to move back to Ireland in January 2004 with his family and Norbert Lieder took over the position. From a grand 19th century house to the finest of 21st century country house hotels, Inverlochy Castle has, of course, seen much change and development. Now over 100 years old, the Castle has required modernising and upgrading but, as with the beauty of its setting, its imposing style and Victorian grandeur remain timeless.
